Joining RDA Peninsula
Joining the Program
RDA Peninsula operates four days a week with riders from local special schools on weekdays and independent riders on Saturday mornings. Our sessions are usually groups of four riders, with each rider having a different riding plan depending on their ability. Most of our client plans include working on increasing body strength, speech, communication and following instructions, all while playing games riding a horse. Our more able clients are taught to ride and look after their horse, with the hopes of going on to own their own horse and compete.

RDA Peninsula places a great value on our volunteers as without them we could not operate and our clients would not be able to enjoy the freedom of riding a horse. We understand that some volunteers want to work with the horses and others prefer to work with the riders and as far as possible we try to match volunteers with the tasks they prefer. All volunteers are trained in both horse safety and rider support, with the option of ongoing training to be a coach. We understand that time is a most precious commodity and while we hope our volunteers can attend every week, we also appreciate that people have other commitments so we are equally thankful to those who can only attend on a roster.
