Daylesford RDA is a small Centre (numbers limited to 15 maximum) and teaches basic riding skills to children and adults with a disability. Riders are allocated to one of three one hour lessons based on their availability, age and previous riding experience. Riders have the opportunity to participate in regional games days and other regional activities. Riders can also participate in dressage competitions. Daylesford also provides an opportunity for eligible riders to participate in Special Olympics competition. We make use of our location adjacent to the Wombat State Forrest to go trail riding at least once a term. Daylesford operates in school terms 1, 2 and 4.
- Lesson Fees: $6 per lesson
- Length of lessons: 1 hour which includes mounting, riding and dismounting
- Weight restrictions: Subject to horse availability – please discuss with Centre.
- Waiting list: no waiting list
Daylesford RDA welcomes volunteers who have a commitment to working with adults and children with a disability. Horse experience is not required as we provide some basic training. Volunteers are required from 12.30-5.30pm on a Friday afternoon in Terms1, 2 and 4 and regular attendance is important for both the riders and the horses. There is a range of activities including fundraising, attendance at games days and competitions etc that may also occur on weekends or school holidays that our volunteers help with. In addition to helping with the riding sessions, there is a range of volunteer jobs that are necessary to keep both our small Centre running and enable us to run the activities that we do. Anything from baking cakes, being on hand when the farrier comes, making fancy dress costumes through to painting the arena and planting trees.
