Joining RDA Ballarat

Joining the Program

Sessions are run in an indoor arena with access to outdoor trails. We operate four 30 minute sessions during school terms and have 4 qualified coaches. Our coaches work to develop sessions to provide enjoyment and pleasure, within the capabilities of the riders. Each term the sessions are based on different themes eg AFL football. We have visiting specialists for dressage and jumping, spread throughout the year. A hoist is available for those who need it and trained volunteers support riders at all times. Helmets are provided for each rider. Riders of all ages are welcome to apply.

• Lesson Fees: $215
(2023 RDAV annual fee prices)
• Length of lessons: 30 mins
• Weight restrictions: 90 kg
• Waiting list: 6 – 12 Months

Volunteering

Our volunteers have a variety of life skills but not all have had equine experience. To be a volunteer you will need to be willing to learn RDA skills; have a commitment to supporting and encouraging people with disabilities; lead or side walk horses and have a sense of fun. Each Thursday session has a break for morning tea that enables volunteers to get to know each other. Every new volunteer requires a current Working With Children Check and will undertake a minimum of two weeks training at the centre.
