Joining RDA Collingwood
Joining the Program
RDA at Collingwood Children’s Farm is a unique and special place. Being an inner-city location means we have a wide diversity of clients and we can cater for all sorts of disabilities. Our only limitation is horsepower. As we use horses owned by the farm, we have no control over what is available. This could mean the horses available would not be suitable for heavier riders and likewise, there are times when we do not have suitable ponies for smaller children. The Farm does its best to provide suitable mounts but it is not easy finding horses and ponies that suit the lifestyle of the farm as well as RDA.
Each session has 3 classes which run for 40 minutes (depending on rider fitness, horse happiness etc) and can take up to 5 riders per class. Please note there is NO riding during 3rd term when the horses leave the farm for a well-earned rest. We operate with 2 RDA Level 1 Coaches supported by marvellous volunteers. There are excellent facilities with a sand-based arena as well as trail riding opportunities.
Together with a very active committee, exciting things happen at CCF.

At Collingwood RDA we have a very high level of non-verbal riders, so we request that our volunteers commit for a minimum of 6 months. On a Tuesday we have a very strong volunteer group who have been together for many years. On a Wednesday and Thursday, our volunteer group is not as strong as we have many Uni students, however, they are very committed to our programme. We always welcome new volunteers, however, are also conscious that the volunteers need to have a role in the programme. Too many volunteers and they lose enthusiasm.
