Recreational riding
Riders enjoy the experience of developing their riding skills whilst enjoying the freedom, movement, sensory feedback and exhilaration of riding a horse. It offers opportunities to extend their abilities, become limber, improve balance, core strength, posture and co-ordination. Riders are able to develop a relationship with the horse and enjoy the natural environment.
Riders are also able to learn about the disciplines of dressage and jumping, as well as games and trail riding. Riders have the opportunity to be integrated into mainstream equestrian clubs, riding schools and organisations. RDA Victoria is responsible for writing the Inclusive Coaching module of the Pony Club Level 1 Coaching Certificate. This enables PCAV coaches to integrate riders with disabilities into Pony Club activities.
Riders who wish to extend their abilities are able to enter RDA competitions, such as the RDAV State Dressage, Showing, Show Jumping and Carriage Driving Championships, the RDAV State Games and Special Olympics Equestrian Events, RDAA competitions as well as mainstream equestrian competitions through clubs such as Equestrian Victoria, Pony Club Association of Victoria and Horse Riding Clubs Association of Victoria. Our riders also compete at the Royal Melbourne Horse Show.
We also have Individual Riders registered who do not ride with Centres but enjoy access to the development squad, specialist coaches, clinics, adaptive equipment, exemption assistance, newsletters and State and National Competitions.
